The murder of Selven Iyempermal, alias Belo, a 34-year-old man killed at his home in La Caverne, Vacoas, has taken a new turn. An investigation led by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Vacoas has been ongoing since the incident occurred on October 27. According to reports, Selven Iyempermal was attacked by six individuals wearing black clothes and masks at his residence.

The victims, Selven Iyempermal and a 32-year-old mason, were attacked with various weapons, including telescopic batons, a sword, and a baseball bat. The mason attempted to intervene but was also injured. Both victims were taken to Victoria Hospital, Candos, where Selven Iyempermal was admitted to the intensive care unit due to severe injuries and significant blood loss. He succumbed to his injuries on October 28.

Following the incident, the CID conducted interviews with several residents in the area, including three witnesses. One witness provided crucial testimony that enabled police photographers to take pictures and make measurements at the scene. The Scene of Crime Office in Rose-Hill secured several pieces of evidence, including a blood-stained pair of scissors, a blood-stained T-shirt, and a sword.

On October 30, a special operation was conducted by the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit of the central division, involving multiple units, including the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), the central CID, the Special Support Unit, the IT Unit, and the Divisional Supporting Unit (DSU). The operation led to the interrogation of several individuals at different locations.

Three suspects were handed over to the MCIT for further investigation, while one suspect, Imteaz Ahmad Khan Cheddy, 35, was detained at the Line Barracks. He will appear before the Curepipe court on November 2 for his provisional accusation. The investigation aims to establish the exact role of each suspect and identify the six men who participated in the attack.

The IT Unit seized a DVR recorder and several SD memory cards from surveillance cameras, which may provide crucial evidence to track the suspects' movements and clarify the circumstances of the fatal attack. The police are working to piece together the events surrounding the murder and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The murder case has garnered significant attention, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
