The three minors, whose ages are not disclosed, were found with stolen property, including a motorist’s cellphone. They are expected to face charges of theft out of a motor vehicle, malicious damage to property, and possession of stolen property. According to the City, 246 smash-and-grab incidents have been detected on the City’s CCTV network during the 2025/26 financial year. To combat the surge in smash-and-grab incidents, the City has deployed additional resources, including drones to support the camera network and officers on the ground. Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the measures had resulted in fewer incidents of a criminal nature, but random, opportunistic crimes remained a challenge. The City’s efforts to enhance safety have included 33 drone operations on the N2 so far this year. The drone flights aim to augment the existing camera network and support ground efforts.
