The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation announced on Wednesday that three people were killed and 36 others injured in attacks on Abha and King Khalid international airports on Tuesday and Wednesday. The attacks resulted in the deaths of a Moroccan and an Algerian national at Abha airport, and a Sudanese national at King Khalid airport. The injured included citizens and residents of various nationalities.
The attack on Abha International Airport resulted in the deaths of two women, a Moroccan and an Algerian national, and injured 28 people, including two from Bangladesh and the Philippines. The injuries ranged from minor to severe. At King Khalid International Airport, a Sudanese national was killed and eight people injured, including five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents, and one Pakistani resident.
All those injured were transferred to hospitals to receive necessary medical care. The attacks also caused some material damage. The General Authority of Civil Aviation stated that it was working with relevant security authorities to assess the damage and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers, workers, and the security of the civil aviation system in Saudi Arabia.
In a related development, the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced on Wednesday that it had destroyed a platform for launching ballistic missiles used to target the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The destruction was carried out in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, as the coalition prepared to launch a sudden attack towards the Kingdom.
The coalition's spokesperson, Major General Turki Al-Malki, published a video documenting the destruction of the ballistic missile launchpad used to target Riyadh. The development comes amid escalating fighting between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces, particularly near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The conflict in Yemen began in late 2014 when the Houthis took control of Sana'a and large parts of northern Yemen. In 2015, a coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, which is currently based in Aden.
The situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate, with the Houthis increasing their missile and drone attacks inside Saudi Arabia, and the coalition intensifying its airstrikes. The international community remains concerned about the humanitarian situation in Yemen, which has resulted in significant loss of life and displacement of civilians.
