Three people have been killed and seven others injured in two separate road crashes in Ogun State. The accidents occurred on Saturday at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway and the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota-Idiroko Road. According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, the crashes involved a patrol van, a tricycle, a yellow Howo truck, and a TVS tricycle.

The first accident occurred at about 4:10 p.m. at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu-Ikorodu Highway, leaving a woman dead and two other women with injuries. The crash happened when a patrol van emerged from the Kam Steel access road onto the highway and collided with a tricycle, causing it to somersault. Eight people were involved, with one female adult dying and two others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

The injured victims from the first crash were rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, while the body of the deceased was deposited at the same hospital morgue. The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a traffic update on Saturday.

Another accident occurred at about 3:25 p.m. at the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota-Idiroko Road, involving a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle. The crash was caused by brake failure, which reportedly made the truck driver lose control. Nine people were involved, with two persons, including a male adult and a female adult, dying while seven others were injured.

The injured victims from the second crash had been taken to the hospital before the arrival of rescue officials. One of the deceased was claimed by her relatives, while the other body was deposited at the General Hospital morgue, Ifo. Akinbiyi said the intervention of TRACE operatives and other emergency responders helped to restore traffic flow at both accident scenes.

Akinbiyi commiserated with families of the deceased and admonished motorists to make safety their watchword by servicing and adequately maintaining their vehicles as and when due. He noted that non-compliance could lead to severe consequences. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, along with other emergency responders, helped to restore traffic flow at both accident scenes.

The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of road safety and vehicle maintenance. Motorists are urged to take necessary precautions to prevent such accidents. The Ogun State government and emergency responders are working to prevent similar incidents in the future.
