Celebrated public relations strategist and media executive, Idris Olakunle Bello, has been conferred with the prestigious Creative Industry Icon Award by the Society of Nigeria Theatre Artistes (SONTA). The award was presented during SONTA’s milestone 40th Annual General Meeting and 39th International Conference, hosted at Lead City University, Ibadan, on Wednesday, August 19. This recognition is a testament to Bello's visionary leadership and transformative contributions to Africa's cultural economy.

The gathering drew the crème de la crème of theatre scholarship, cultural policy, and creative practice across the continent, placing Bello firmly within an elite echelon of practitioners whose work bridges the gap between ivory-tower academic theory and commercial enterprise. The week-long academic and artistic conclave was hosted by Dr. Olajide Monsuru, Head of the Performing Arts Department at Lead City University, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo as chief host.

Delivering the keynote address, Professor Jeleel Ojuade, Vice-Chancellor of Ojaja University, Kwara State, set the tone for an intellectual interrogation of the Nigerian creative landscape. Sharing the honours roll with Bello were monumental figures and national leaders who have shaped Nigerian society. Literary colossus Professor Femi Osofisan was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, was equally recognised.

The conference also celebrated Professor Nasir Taofiq Olaide, the first African Professor of Psycho-Drama and Dramatherapy, alongside Mr. Ahmad Lawal, Chief Executive Officer of Lahmad Concepts. Bello's inclusion alongside such established academics and public figures underlines the growing institutional recognition of strategic communication and brand architecture as indispensable engines driving modern African entertainment.

Popularly known in media and entertainment circuits as Emiralty, Idris Bello has crafted a career defined by innovation, consistency, and strategic execution. An alumnus of both Olabisi Onabanjo University and the University of Ilorin, Bello holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts with multiple scholarly publications to his credit. Before transitioning fully into corporate enterprise, he imparted knowledge and mentored emerging practitioners as a lecturer in the Department of Performing and Film Arts at Elizade University.

Through Emiralty Africa Arts Creation, Bello has masterminded high-impact public relations campaigns and structured brand management for leading Nollywood stars and productions, steering publicity strategies for celebrated figures including Chief Adebayo Salami, Femi Adebayo, Toyin Abraham, Mercy Aigbe, Eniola Ajao, and Muhyideen Oladapo. Beyond commercial publicity, Bello has distinguished himself as a convener and thought leader, with his flagship initiative, Emiralty Connect, debuting with a widely acclaimed conference.

Reflecting on the milestone, Bello expressed his gratitude and delight at receiving the Creative Industry Icon Award. He traced the trajectory of his career from university lecture halls to the height of professional acclaim, noting that the recognition is both humbling and deeply rewarding. Bello thanked everyone for their kind support, acknowledging the journey that has led to this prestigious award.
