In Kenya, a technology-driven emergency response platform called AURA has reached a significant milestone, surpassing one million emergency activations globally. This development comes as the company expands its partnerships in the country, including with Glovo, a popular delivery service. The platform aims to address gaps in public emergency response infrastructure by connecting users to independent third-party security and medical responders.

AURA's emergency response infrastructure enables incidents involving delivery riders to be managed from the moment an alert is raised through to the arrival of a responder. The service is designed to provide an additional layer of support for delivery riders who spend much of their working day on Kenya's roads. With AURA's technology, riders can quickly access emergency assistance in the event of medical, security, or road-related emergencies.

According to Victor Odera, AURA's Head of Operations in Kenya, the company sees significant potential to use technology and private-sector partnerships to widen access to emergency assistance. Odera noted that surpassing one million emergency activations globally is a major milestone for AURA, demonstrating the scale at which technology-enabled emergency response can now operate.

AURA's network has helped save 389 lives and created more than 40,000 safe spaces globally during the first half of 2026. The company operates in Kenya, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. In Kenya, AURA has partnered with Glovo, Uber, and Sanlam Allianz, and is looking to expand its model further.

The platform connects users to independent third-party security and medical responders, using location information to facilitate access to a nearby responder. AURA has also rebuilt its responder application and integrated Google Maps navigation to improve routing, incident coordination, and estimated arrival times.

However, AURA's terms state that response availability depends on the presence of responders in a particular area, and that response times cannot be guaranteed. Despite this, the company remains committed to expanding its responder network, technology, and partnerships in Kenya and other markets.

As AURA enters its next phase of growth, the company aims to address gaps in public emergency response infrastructure, ensuring that businesses and individuals can access professional emergency support when it matters most. With its expanded partnerships and technology, AURA is poised to make a significant impact in Kenya's emergency response landscape.
