The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a vacancy for the position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, offering a competitive compensation package. The CEO will receive a gross monthly salary of Sh698,600, translating to approximately Sh8.38 million annually. This position, which is open to Kenyan citizens, comes with a range of benefits and allowances.
In addition to the salary, the CEO will receive a monthly airtime allowance of Sh15,000 and an annual leave allowance of Sh50,000. The position also comes with an official vehicle with an engine capacity not exceeding 3,000cc and a daily subsistence allowance for authorized local and foreign travel. The compensation and benefits for this position will be in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
The CEO will have access to lucrative loan facilities, including a car loan of up to Sh6 million and a mortgage facility of up to Sh30 million. These loans will attract an interest rate of 3 per cent per annum, with a maximum repayment period of five years for the car loan and 20 years for the mortgage. The loan schemes will be administered and managed centrally by the National Treasury.
The incoming CEO will also receive comprehensive medical insurance coverage for themselves, one spouse, and up to four children below the age of 25. The medical package includes Sh10 million inpatient cover, Sh300,000 outpatient cover, Sh150,000 maternity cover, Sh75,000 dental cover, and Sh75,000 optical cover. Additionally, the CEO will have group life insurance equivalent to three times their annual pensionable emoluments.
The CEO will be entitled to a service gratuity equivalent to 31 per cent of their annual pensionable emoluments for the term served. The position also comes with a group personal accident cover at a value equivalent to three times the annual pensionable emoluments. The CEO will serve as the head of the TSC secretariat and the Commission's accounting officer, responsible for implementing decisions and strategies.
To qualify for the position, applicants must be Kenyan citizens, hold a degree from a recognized university in Kenya, and have at least 10 years of experience in education, administration and management, public administration, human resource, or financial management. They must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution. The position is for an initial five-year term, with eligibility for reappointment for one further five-year term.
The vacancy follows the departure of Nancy Macharia after the expiry of her tenure, with Evaleen Mitei serving as Acting Secretary/CEO during the transition.
