The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced urgent rehabilitation works on Towers J4 and N9 to N12 along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132 kV double-circuit transmission line. This follows recent acts of vandalism that affected the critical power infrastructure. The rehabilitation efforts aim to restore the transmission line to its optimal condition, ensuring reliable power supply to the region.
A site inspection was conducted to ensure strict adherence to engineering specifications and enable immediate adjustments where necessary. Engineer Nasir Bello, Regional Manager, represented by the Assistant General Manager (AGM), Transmission, Port Harcourt Region, gave a progress report on the rehabilitation works. He stated that the vandalised towers had been completely dismantled, while the tower bases had been solidly recast.
The Regional Manager urged residents of Ikot Abasi to remain vigilant and actively involved in protecting critical power infrastructure within their communities from criminal elements. This appeal was made to encourage community participation in safeguarding vital infrastructure and preventing future acts of vandalism.
Engineer Azuh Lucky, Head of Lines, Port Harcourt Transmission Region, highlighted the importance of rigorous monitoring to ensure compliance with engineering standards and guarantee the quality of the rehabilitation works. This monitoring will ensure that the rehabilitation works meet the required standards.
Engineer Eguaikhide Clement, Principal Manager, Uyo Work Centre, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the rehabilitation works. He commended the contractors for their commitment and understanding of the urgency of completing the project.
