Rwanda and Kenya have pledged to enhance intergovernmental cooperation in different sectors for the benefit of citizens of both countries. This commitment was made during a visit by Amb. Fidelis Mironko, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MINAFFET), and his delegation. The areas of cooperation discussed during the visit include those that Amb. Mironko visited, such as the National Defence College (NDC) in Kenya, the Kenya School of Government (KSG), and the Diplomatic Institute.
During the visit to the Kenya School of Government, Amb. Mironko and his delegation inspected the implementation of a planned agreement between the institution and the Rwanda Management Institute (RMI). The agreement, once signed, is expected to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise, professional training, and capacity building for civil servants in various government sectors and institutions in both countries.
The Director of the Kenya School of Government, Prof. Nura Mohamed, stated that the institution plays a significant role in building the capacity of government employees to help them address citizen concerns and provide stable services, all of which contribute to national development. He highlighted the school's efforts in providing training and capacity-building programs for civil servants.
The Rwandan delegation also visited the National Defence College in Karen, where they were received by its Director, Lt. Gen. Juma Mwinyikai, who explained the college's mandate, curriculum, and role in building the capacity of senior military leaders in Kenya. He mentioned that the college provides knowledge to military personnel from different countries, including senior military officers from Rwanda who have undergone training alongside other employees from various Rwandan ministries and government institutions.
Amb. Mironko emphasized that Rwanda values Kenya's experience in promoting stable governance and capacity building, and therefore, both countries should strengthen their cooperation and collaboration in areas such as governance, capacity building for employees, business, security, and military affairs, as well as joint education programs. He highlighted the importance of exchanging knowledge and expertise between the two countries.
During the visit to the Diplomatic Institute, the Rwandan delegation was briefed on how Kenya provides training in diplomacy and promotes professional expertise in government work. The discussions focused on exchanging knowledge and expertise and learning from the institute's operations. Both parties expressed their commitment to continuing to support a strong relationship between the two countries and to further expand knowledge and expertise through exchange and strengthened cooperation.
