Tanzania's national women's golf team has departed for Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT). The team, consisting of captain Madina Hussein, Hawa Wanyeche, and Neema Olomi, is managed by Ayne Magombe. They will compete from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club. Officials and sponsors are optimistic about the squad's chances of securing their first continental title.

The team received government support ahead of their departure. During the flag-off ceremony in Dar es Salaam on Friday, National Sports Council (NSC) Sports Officer Petro Chalula encouraged the players to strive for excellence. Chalula reiterated the government's commitment to sports development under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, especially through funding infrastructure and supporting athletes.

Chalula commended the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) and sponsors for their roles in making the trip possible. He expressed his best wishes for the team, saying, "We wish our heroines the very best. Stay united, perform your best on the course, and return home victorious." The team's sponsors include CRDB Bank, Kago Logistics, Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), and Kago Africa Limited.

Tanzania aims to clinch its first AACT title after finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2018. The team placed fifth at the last championship in Morocco. TLGU President Timea Chogo expressed gratitude to the NSC and other supporters, emphasising the players' responsibility to enhance the country's legacy in the sport.

Gilman Kasiga, Chairman of the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), conveyed confidence in the team, stating that the squad is complete and will return with victory. Team Manager Ayne Magombe echoed this sentiment, highlighting the players' experience and readiness for the challenge. "Our team consists of skilled players who are well-prepared and eager to compete for the trophy," she remarked.

Kago Africa Limited General Manager Sherebanoo Moiz expressed pride in supporting the national team, reflecting the company's commitment to the principles of discipline, leadership, and excellence fostered through sport. The team's participation in the AACT is seen as an opportunity to promote Tanzania's golfing legacy.

As the team competes in the prestigious tournament, they will look to make history and bring glory to their country. With government support and sponsorship, the Tanzanian women's golf team is poised to make a strong impression in Abuja. Their journey will be closely watched by fans and supporters back home.
