On October 6, 2026, Tanzania's Minister of Energy, Dkt. Juma Zuberi Homera, launched an improved customer service contract and various services by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) at the Super Dome in Dar es Salaam. The new contract aims to improve service delivery to customers efficiently and on time. Minister Homera emphasized the importance of using modern technology to enhance service delivery, focusing on accountability, transparency, and professionalism.
Minister Homera directed TANESCO to address customer challenges promptly, as issues with electricity services can directly impact economic production and activities. He stated that the government's goal is to develop an energy sector that supports Tanzania's economic growth. The minister wants to see production activities continue without unnecessary obstacles and for citizens to receive services easily.
Tanzania currently has a sufficient electricity supply, with a production capacity of 4,606 megawatts, exceeding the peak demand of 2,316 megawatts. This provides opportunities for economic growth through investments in industries, businesses, and social activities. The minister's directive aligns with the government's efforts to improve the energy sector and support the country's economic development.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee, Subira Mgalu, praised the Ministry of Energy and TANESCO for introducing innovative solutions to address customer challenges. Mgalu commended the efforts to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction. He encouraged TANESCO to continue implementing measures that enhance customer experience.
The Deputy Chairman of TANESCO's Board of Directors, Balozi Zuhura Bundala, assured that the board would continue to oversee TANESCO's efforts to provide efficient services using modern technology. Bundala emphasized that the board prioritizes customer satisfaction and will advise TANESCO to ensure that services are delivered directly to customers without obstacles.

Twange introduced the Twiga Assistant, an electronic system designed to replace paper-based services. The new system is part of TANESCO's efforts to enhance customer experience and provide services efficiently.
The launch event, themed "EXTRA MILE," coincided with the introduction of a new customer service number (185) for large customers, a digital chatbot (Twiga AI Chatbot), and an upgraded customer service unit.
