Tanzania's government has pledged to work closely with The Tanzania Association of Oil Marketing Companies (TAOMAC) to address challenges affecting the petroleum sector and ensure timely fuel supplies nationwide. The commitment was made during a meeting between Minister for Energy, Juma Homera, and TAOMAC leaders and members at the Ministry of Energy's Dar es Salaam offices. The meeting aimed to discuss measures to improve the performance and growth of the petroleum sector.
Minister Homera emphasized the critical role of petroleum products in supporting various economic activities in Tanzania. He stressed the need for stronger communication and coordination between the government, importers, and distributors to identify and address challenges affecting the sector. This, he believes, will help improve efficiency in the petroleum supply chain and ensure that fuel reaches all parts of the country on time.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from institutions under the Ministry of Energy, including the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) and the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA). Also in attendance were the Ministry's Permanent Secretary responsible for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dr James Mataragio, and Petroleum Commissioner Goodluck Shirima. TAOMAC leaders and members were also present.
According to Minister Homera, closer collaboration between the government and industry stakeholders will help safeguard the availability of fuel across Tanzania. This, in turn, will support both economic and social activities, ensuring that the country's growth and development are not hindered by fuel shortages.
The government has been working to improve the petroleum sector's performance and growth. One of the initiatives is to connect power to over a million households, particularly in the Dar and Coast regions, using over 800 megawatts of electricity. This move aims to support economic activities and improve the overall quality of life for Tanzanians.
The Minister's pledge to work closely with TAOMAC has been seen as a positive step towards addressing fuel supply challenges in Tanzania. The government's commitment to strengthening cooperation with petroleum importers and distributors is expected to ensure that fuel supplies are adequate and timely, supporting the country's economic and social activities.
