The Tanzanian government has introduced a new financial education guide for higher learning institutions, vocational training, and technical colleges. The guide aims to empower students and graduates to make informed and responsible financial decisions. Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, launched the guide in Dar es Salaam, emphasizing the importance of financial education in human resource development.

According to Ameir, financial education is crucial in today's digital age, where the use of digital financial services is increasing. The guide seeks to ensure that curricula reflect financial education, enabling students to acquire skills and knowledge that can be applied in everyday life. This includes understanding financial planning, management of income and expenses, savings, borrowing, and investment opportunities.

The Deputy Minister stressed that having a degree or certificate is not enough; graduates need to possess knowledge, skills, expertise, creativity, and good morals. The guide is expected to produce graduates who can manage their finances effectively and make informed decisions. Ameir also urged the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) and the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) to ensure that financial education is considered in quality control regulations.

Financial institutions, private sectors, and development partners are encouraged to collaborate with colleges to provide practical training and entrepreneurship programs. Ameir emphasized that the launch of the guide marks the beginning of its implementation, which aims to build a generation of graduates with financial capabilities aligned with the National Development Vision 2050.

The guide is expected to address issues such as financial literacy, financial planning, and management, as well as protecting oneself from financial scams and using financial technologies safely. By incorporating financial education into the curriculum, the government aims to equip students with the necessary skills to succeed in their personal and professional lives.

The introduction of the financial education guide is a significant step towards promoting financial inclusion and stability in Tanzania. By providing students with the necessary knowledge and skills, the government hopes to empower them to make informed financial decisions and contribute to the country's economic growth.

The government has taken a proactive approach to address the need for financial education in higher learning institutions. With the implementation of the guide, Tanzania is expected to see a significant improvement in the financial literacy and management skills of its graduates, ultimately contributing to the country's socio-economic development.
