Tanzania has expressed its appreciation for its diplomatic relations and longstanding friendship with China, highlighting the significant contributions to the country's development. This was stated by Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, at a ceremony in Dar es Salaam marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The ceremony, which was attended by government leaders, ambassadors, diplomats, and private-sector stakeholders, saw Ambassador Kombo convey congratulatory greetings from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the people of China. He emphasized that Tanzania values the relationship, which has continued to grow and strengthen in various areas. The Minister stressed the importance of utilizing available opportunities to increase trade and investment between the two countries.
Ambassador Kombo urged Tanzanian producers and traders to increase production and improve the quality of their products to benefit more from the Chinese market. He specifically mentioned agricultural products and other goods with export potential. The Minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening transport infrastructure, citing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) as a vital means of facilitating cargo transportation and promoting trade in Southern Africa.
Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania, Chen Mingjian, stated that the Chinese government would continue working with Tanzania in areas of mutual interest. She noted that the history of relations between the two countries has been built on mutual respect and expressed China's readiness to continue efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
