Police in the Northern Region of Ghana have launched an investigation into the deaths of three children found in the trunk of a vehicle in Tamale. The children, identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3, Saani Alsharaf, 5, and Dauda Fadilan, 7, were reported missing after leaving home on Sunday to attend Islamic classes. Their bodies were discovered in a black Hyundai Tucson at Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis on Monday morning.

Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that the children did not die of natural causes, prompting police to treat the case as murder. A source familiar with the investigation stated that a toxicological examination is required to establish the circumstances and possible cause of their deaths. The autopsy results have ruled out natural death, but authorities are awaiting further test results to provide clarity on the cause of death.

The vehicle in which the children's bodies were found has been secured for forensic examination. According to police, the vehicle was stuck in mud with the driver's door and rear passenger door open, while the boot and other doors were locked. The owner of the vehicle, a member of the Ghana Immigration Service, has been arrested and transported to Accra to assist with investigations.

The owner of the vehicle reportedly told police that it had been stuck for five days. The Inspector-General of Police has deployed forensic and crime scene experts to Tamale to support the investigation. Homicide investigators and intelligence officers have also been dispatched to assist the Northern Regional Police Command in examining the vehicle and other evidence at the scene.

The investigation aims to establish what happened to the children and how they ended up inside the boot of the vehicle. Police are working to gather evidence and piece together the events surrounding the children's deaths. The case has generated widespread concern in the Northern Region, with many calling for swift action to be taken.

The deployment of forensic and crime scene experts is expected to help shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the children's deaths. Authorities are urging caution and restraint as the investigation continues. The police have assured the public that they will work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind the tragic incident.

The case is ongoing, with police awaiting toxicological results to provide further clarity on the cause of death.
