Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, has introduced two initiatives to empower women and young people in his constituency. The Lebgimsim Enterprise Fund and the Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu Skills and Innovation Academy aim to provide financial and technical support to women and equip young people with practical skills. These initiatives target entrepreneurship, skills development, and economic empowerment in the Tamale Central Constituency.
The Lebgimsim Enterprise Fund has launched with 60 women in its first cohort, divided into three groups. Each group will receive GH¢40,000 to establish or expand their businesses. Beneficiaries will also receive training in resource management, business branding, and digital marketing. This initiative provides financial assistance and equips beneficiaries with knowledge and skills for effective business management.
The Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu Skills and Innovation Academy has commenced with its first cohort focusing on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Beneficiaries received computers and start-up support after completing their training. The second cohort will begin training the following week, with participants receiving training based on their areas of interest.
The initiatives aim to address unemployment and economic challenges among women and young people in the constituency. Professor Seidu expects to invest about GH¢3 million in the two initiatives over the next four to five years. Beneficiaries will be monitored and evaluated to determine the impact of the programmes.
Professor Seidu acknowledged initiatives introduced by the former MP for Tamale Central, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. He expressed his commitment to protecting and advancing the positive legacy left by his predecessor.
