The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana EXIM Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah, has proposed working with Latenu FM, a community radio station in La, to provide information on business growth, trade, and export opportunities in the Ga language. Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at Latenu FM's 10th anniversary celebration, Mr Mensah urged the station to use its platform to highlight local entrepreneurs and help listeners understand the business and financing opportunities available to them.
Mr Mensah, a former MP for La Dadekotopon, said he was willing to explore how the station and institutions such as Ghana EXIM Bank could work together to make business information more accessible to local communities. He praised the station for using Ga in its programmes over the past decade, saying community radio also provided local businesses with an avenue to reach customers in a language they understood.
Mr Mensah said the initiative should not be limited to the Ga language, but could also be extended to other Ghanaian languages to help disseminate important national information to a wider audience. He encouraged the station to celebrate local entrepreneurs, explain financing and trade opportunities, and inspire young people to create, not only to seek jobs.
Latenu FM marked its anniversary with a ceremony at which it presented awards to individuals recognised for their contributions to communities in La and the wider Ga traditional area. The station's efforts to promote the Ga language and culture were commended by Mr Mensah, who noted that the language was under threat of decline as children shy away from speaking it.
According to Mr Mensah, it is essential to promote the Ga language and culture, and to encourage young people to learn and appreciate their heritage. He urged parents to teach their children the Ga language and story, and to ensure that they understand the importance of preserving their cultural identity.
The Ghana EXIM Bank CEO also highlighted the bank's efforts to support businesses and promote economic growth in Ghana. He noted that the bank had grown its loan portfolio to GH¢1.56 billion and its equity to GH¢2.1 billion in 2025, and was committed to supporting high-impact businesses that would drive economic growth and development.
Mr Mensah's proposal to work with Latenu FM is part of a broader effort to promote economic growth and development in Ghana.
