The session was conducted by the Association for Family Well-being and Desired Birth (ABEF-ND) through the Youth Action Movement (MAJ) on September 26, 2026. The event aimed to educate students on the importance of contraception in preventing unplanned pregnancies and promoting better planning of their school, family, and professional lives.
The session was conducted in commemoration of the World Contraception Day celebrated on September 26 every year. Mlle Zola Diasilua, President of the Youth Action Movement of ABEF-ND, emphasized that contraception allows young people to prevent unplanned pregnancies and better plan their lives. She encouraged the students to take responsibility for their reproductive health and make informed decisions about their future.
Mlle Christine Olenga, a member of MAJ, explained to the students that there are various contraceptive methods available, including condoms, pills, intrauterine devices, injectable contraceptives, and implants. However, she noted that some of these methods only protect against unplanned pregnancies and not against sexually transmitted infections (STIs), while condoms offer protection against both.
The students who attended the session expressed their satisfaction with the information provided. Ermine Ngabo, a third-year high school student, found the topic of contraception to be very interesting and beneficial for young people. She appreciated the efforts of ABEF-ND in providing accurate information on various contraceptive methods and encouraged her peers to take precautions to avoid unplanned pregnancies and STIs.
Numbi Zaina, another student who attended the session, emphasized the importance of abstinence as a contraceptive method. She believed that abstinence is the best method for young people, as it allows them to focus on their studies and avoid the risks associated with unprotected sex. The students who attended the session pledged to share the information they received with their peers and encourage them to take responsibility for their reproductive health.
The sensitization session on contraception was well-received by the students, who appreciated the opportunity to learn about reproductive health in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
