Sydenham police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection with an alleged rape that occurred on August 5, 2026. The incident was reported by an African female who claimed to have met the suspect, known as Nkanyiso, on Anton Lembede Street in the Durban CBD. According to the complainant, Nkanyiso took her on a date, and they travelled in a white Toyota Starlet driven by the suspect.
The woman alleged that they were heading towards Gateway in Umhlanga but took an off-ramp onto the M19 towards Westville, where the suspect stopped the vehicle. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and moved to the back seat, where the woman was seated. Sergeant Simo Jili, Sydenham SAPS communications officer, stated that the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at the woman before committing the rape.
The suspect is described as being between 24 and 26 years old, dark in complexion, and of medium height. At the time of the alleged incident, he was wearing a Golf T-shirt, beige jersey, light-blue jeans, and white Nike takkies. Police are seeking any information that could lead to the suspect's apprehension and are urging members of the public to come forward.
