The Sudanese embassy in Nigeria has announced that the Sudanese Armed Forces, along with allied Joint Force units, have launched a successful operation against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). On September 17, the army recaptured eleven areas across North Kordofan State in a coordinated offensive. This development was made public through a statement issued by the embassy's media department.
According to the statement, the recaptured areas include Kajmar, Sharshar, Al-Baniyah Al-Kurayniyah, Al-Qulay’at, Awlad Hazmah, Magwildat, Rayshan, Al-Qaa, Ghabat Al-Laqad, Al-Kukaiti, and the area surrounding Al-Mazrub. The operation, which began before dawn, involved a sustained drone campaign aimed at disrupting RSF reinforcement lines. Ground forces then launched a coordinated assault from positions bordering Sodari, Umm Badr, and Hamrat al-Sheikh.
The operation is part of a sustained campaign by the Sudanese army to restore state authority across western Sudan. In June, the army recaptured Bara, Jabrat al-Sheikh, and other transit points along the Forty Days Road corridor. The Forty Days Road corridor links Kordofan to Darfur and has been a strategic location for the RSF. The army's efforts aim to protect civilians and clear the region of paramilitary forces responsible for widespread abuses.
Darfur regional Governor, Minni Minawi, commended the advance as a significant step toward restoring stability to the region. His allied Joint Force factions fought alongside the army in the operation. Governor Minawi stated that the offensive aims to sever a corridor the RSF has used to move fighters and equipment between Darfur and the Khartoum theatre.
The Sudanese Sovereign Council continues to press the international community to recognise the legitimacy of the country's national institutions. The council also seeks to hold the RSF's foreign backer accountable for their actions. The restoration of state authority across Sudan remains the surest path to ending the conflict and protecting civilians nationwide.
