The Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries in Sudan has conducted a meeting to discuss ways to improve the performance of meat export slaughterhouses and enhance the quality of exported meat. The meeting, which was attended by heads of inspection departments and quality officials from export slaughterhouses, aimed to develop a unified plan to ensure the production of safe and healthy meat for both local consumption and export.
The meeting comes as part of the Ministry's efforts to develop a strategic plan that focuses on expanding meat exports and maximizing the use of slaughterhouse by-products through manufacturing and adding value. The Ministry's Deputy, Dr. Ammar Sheikh Idris, emphasized the need to rehabilitate slaughterhouses according to international quality standards to ensure the safety of meat for local consumption and export.
Dr. Hussein Muhammad Al-Bashir, Director-General of the General Administration of Quarries and Meat Health, announced that the Ministry is committed to international standards and regulations for meat exports. He revealed that Sudan has started exporting meat to Kuwait and is preparing to expand into Gulf markets.
The meeting discussed ways to improve performance and address obstacles that hinder the resumption and expansion of meat exports. Dr. Al-Bashir disclosed that seven slaughterhouses are ready for export according to approved health regulations. He stressed the importance of qualifying and activating central laboratories to ensure the accuracy of examinations and the quality of products.
Dr. Tariq Fath Al-Alim Abd Al-Rahim, Director of the Slaughterhouses Department, reviewed the Department's plan and the challenges it faces. He highlighted the Department's supervisory and technical role in overseeing slaughterhouses, producing meat, and applying food safety requirements to produce safe and healthy products, especially in the post-war reconstruction phase.
The Ministry's efforts aim to enhance the quality of exported meat and improve Sudan's position in the global market. The plan to develop slaughterhouses and enhance meat quality is expected to contribute to the country's economic growth and increase its exports.
