Strategic Engagement, a full-spectrum business management consulting firm, has announced a job opening for an ESG Associate and Personal Assistant in Kampala, Uganda. The role is an internship position that offers direct exposure to ESG advisory, client conversations, and reporting, with hands-on training, mentorship, and progressively greater responsibility as the practice grows. The ideal candidate will support the principal across live ESG and sustainability engagements, client development, reporting, research, and day-to-day administrative priorities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and approaching prospective clients for ESG advisory and reporting work, leading early-stage client conversations, and helping convert opportunities into signed engagements. They will also own follow-up by keeping live opportunities and existing relationships warm and moving forward. Additionally, the ESG Associate and Personal Assistant will support the production of ESG and sustainability reports, including social and rights-related reporting, and carry out desk research, drafting, and analysis for client work.
The role also involves providing personal and operational support to the Principal, including managing their schedule, correspondence, and day-to-day priorities. The ESG Associate and Personal Assistant will maintain and grow a professional social media presence for the practice, handle general administration using Microsoft Office, and travel within Uganda and the region for client meetings as needed. A valid driving license is required for this position.
To qualify for this role, candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management, with a genuine interest in, and working understanding of, ESG principles. They should be confident in engaging and negotiating with clients, have strong written and spoken English, and be comfortable using Microsoft Office and managing professional social media. Prior experience drafting ESG, sustainability, or rights-related reports is desirable, as is an existing network of potential clients or referral contacts.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, organized, responsible, and able to work with real independence. They should have evidence of report writing, such as a dissertation, internship deliverable, or NGO project. Competence in technical ESG research, analysis, and report drafting, as well as client engagement, follow-up, and negotiation aptitude, are also essential. Professional written and verbal communication, Microsoft Office proficiency, and professional social media management are also required.
This role is designed for someone building an ESG career, such as a recent graduate, early-career professional, or someone transitioning into sustainability work. The successful candidate will be able to learn by doing, take real responsibility, and grow with the practice.
