Mr Seidu Abdul Faruk, a health worker at the Ada East District Hospital, has made a passionate appeal to the public to seek timely medical attention for physical health conditions. He noted that some people continue to attribute every illness to spiritual causes, delaying treatment until their conditions worsen. According to him, health facilities should be the first point of contact for conditions requiring medical attention to prevent complications associated with delayed treatment.
Mr Faruk cited injuries that could lead to tetanus as an example of conditions that require immediate medical attention. He said some people fail to seek medical attention after sustaining injuries and report to health facilities only after complications have developed. This, he noted, can lead to severe health consequences and even death. He emphasized that it is crucial to seek medical help promptly to prevent such outcomes.
The "Celebrity Nurse" also highlighted that some residents seek spiritual interventions for conditions such as stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes, which require medical assessment and management. He expressed concern that people often go to prayer camps for treatment, thinking that their conditions are spiritual, rather than physical. This, he said, can lead to delayed treatment and worsening of the condition.
Mr Faruk noted that although health facilities, clinics, and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds are available in many communities, some residents still delay seeking professional medical care. He appealed to residents of Ada to seek timely medical attention for physical health conditions and avoid waiting until their conditions become critical. This, he believes, can help prevent complications and reduce pressure on emergency departments.
Mr Faruk also appealed to prayer camps to refer people with physical health conditions to health facilities for appropriate assessment and treatment. He emphasized that early intervention can help prevent complications and improve health outcomes. By working together, he believes that the public and healthcare providers can promote a culture of seeking medical attention for physical health conditions.
The "Celebrity Nurse" made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kasseh. He emphasized that health issues must be treated with urgency and that the public must take responsibility for seeking medical attention when needed. By doing so, he believes that Ghana can make progress in improving health outcomes and reducing the burden on the healthcare system.
