Thousands of members of the South-South community in Kogi State, comprising residents from Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Cross River states, have pledged to support the re-election bids of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Usman Ododo. The pledge was made on Monday through their President-General, Chief Michael Abu, who is also the Special Adviser to the governor on the South-South region.
Chief Abu expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for recognizing the South-South community as a geo-political entity and providing them with political patronage and welfare. He noted that since the creation of Kogi State, members of the community had been sidelined by previous administrations. However, with Governor Ododo's unprecedented recognition and patronage, his members have vowed to give massive support to his second-term bid and to President Tinubu for his reform programs.
The Kogi State Government has empowered members of the South-South community with sewing machines, grinding machines, and a sum of N1.5 million. The State Security Adviser to the Governor, Commander Jerry Omodara (retd), distributed the items during an empowerment program carried out by his office. Omodara promised to continue assisting the community, citing his military career beginnings in the South-South as a Naval Instructor in Rivers State.
Commander Omodara commended the leadership of the South-South community for uniting all members from the South-South states resident in Kogi State. He specifically praised Chief Abu for his purposeful leadership and reeled out the achievements of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, including the construction of an International Airport, an International Market, and 10-kilometre roads in each of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Omodara urged members of the community to continue supporting the APC and the present administration at both state and federal levels. He encouraged them to vote en masse for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next general elections and Governor Usman Ododo in the off-cycle governorship election.
Former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly and leader of the APC in Lokoja LGA, Hon. Alfa Imam, called on the South-South community to support President Tinubu. Imam noted that the President was serious and determined to transform the country and urged members to vote for the APC in the coming local government election, as well as in the presidential, National Assembly, and 2027 governorship election.
The pledge of support from the South-South community is a significant boost to the re-election bids of President Tinubu and Governor Ododo. With thousands of members committed to voting for the APC, the party is likely to gain a substantial advantage in the upcoming elections. The community's support is a testament to the efforts of Governor Ododo and Commander Omodara in promoting unity and empowerment in Kogi State.
