Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to combating banditry in the state. During the 8th regular meeting of the State Executive Council, he assured that his government will continue to work with conventional security agencies to intensify the fight against banditry. The governor emphasized that the state is recording significant improvements in the fight against banditry, with a more robust strategy yielding positive results.
According to Governor Aliyu, the collaboration with security agencies has led to tangible results, with bandits being engaged more than ever before, and livestock being recovered in some local government areas. He cited recent successes in Rabah, Tureta, and Kebbe Local Government Areas, where security agencies engaged bandits, rescued people from captivity, and recovered thousands of livestock rustled by the bandits.
The governor further assured the people of Sokoto State, particularly those in areas worst affected by banditry, that his administration will continue to provide support to security agencies. The provision of new armoured vehicles and other hardware support will enable security personnel to pursue bandits until rural communities are made safer. He emphasized his administration's commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens.
Governor Aliyu also appealed to the people to continue supporting the government in its efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the state. He stated that his administration would continue to execute meaningful projects that have a direct impact on the lives of the people, in line with its 9-Point Agenda. This agenda has guided the administration's delivery of dividends of democracy in various sectors.
Over the last three and a half years, the present administration has made significant strides in healthcare, education, road infrastructure, water supply, religious affairs, and empowerment programmes across the state. The governor expressed his commitment to achieving the dream of a New Sokoto that generations yet unborn will be proud of.
To achieve this objective, Governor Aliyu solicited the continued support and prayers of the people. He emphasized that the government's efforts to restore peace and security require the cooperation of all stakeholders. The governor's assurance has brought hope to the people of Sokoto State, particularly those affected by banditry.
