Alhaji Abubakar Magaji, the Minority Leader of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, has expressed his disappointment with the administration of President Bola Tinubu, stating that there has been no visible development in Nigeria three years into its tenure. Magaji, who represents Bodinga North Constituency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made these remarks while speaking with journalists in Sokoto. He emphasized that despite the resources available to the Federal Government, sufficient progress had not been made to warrant celebration.
Magaji highlighted that the projects being cited by supporters of the administration should be considered against the huge resources available to the Federal Government. He mentioned the proposed Trans-Sahara road linking Illela in Sokoto State to Badagry in Lagos as one of the major projects being highlighted by the administration. However, Magaji stressed that more needs to be done, considering the available resources. He called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address the country's infrastructure deficit and other development challenges.
The lawmaker also expressed concern over the security situation in Sokoto State, claiming that insecurity had affected most of the state's 23 local government areas. He stated that only Sokoto North and Sokoto South remained relatively free from the security challenges affecting other parts of the state. Magaji revealed that the security situation had forced residents of affected communities to abandon their homes and relocate to safer areas.
Magaji disclosed that he was currently accommodating more than 20 displaced persons at his four-bedroom residence. He noted that this had become an odd situation, especially when compared to the tenure of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, during which only seven out of the 23 LGAs were vulnerable to security challenges. This, according to Magaji, indicates a significant deterioration in the security situation.
The lawmaker emphasized that, as a serving legislator, he had not seen any progress under the Tinubu administration. He stated that if progress in terms of leadership in Nigeria is considered, he could say without fear of contradiction that no visible development had occurred. Magaji urged the Federal Government to take concrete actions to address the country's development challenges.
