Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has urged Kenyans to take an active role in shaping the country's political leadership and policies. He made the call during the launch of the Equitable Party, where he was unveiled as the leader of the party and the political movement behind it. Sifuna emphasized that citizens should no longer remain passive spectators in politics. Instead, they should become authors of the country's political narrative.

Sifuna outlined the party's vision, which focuses on building politics around ideas, programs, accountability, and service. He stated that the party would listen to citizens before speaking and consult before making decisions. The senator also emphasized the importance of acknowledging and correcting mistakes. This approach, he believes, will mark a departure from the traditional 'one-man-expert-in-everything' politics.

The Equitable Party aims to promote equal opportunities for Kenyans, particularly young people. Sifuna stressed that young Kenyans should have a meaningful voice in shaping the country's policies and leadership. He also called for greater participation of women in leadership positions. Furthermore, Sifuna emphasized that every region and community deserves dignity, representation, and equal consideration in the country's development.

Sifuna highlighted the importance of national unity in the face of political competition. He argued that Kenyans can disagree on policies while remaining fellow citizens. The senator emphasized that the new political movement is built on constitutionalism, the rule of law, and fidelity to Kenya's national values. This foundation, he believes, will guide the party's actions and decisions.

The Equitable Party will provide a platform for citizens who believe that Kenya can be governed differently. Sifuna stated that the party is open to all who share its vision and are committed to working towards a better Kenya. The party plans to seek the people's mandate in the 2027 General Election under its new name, Linda Mwananchi Movement, pending the completion of the rebranding process.

Sifuna outlined some of the economic proposals being developed by a team of experts working with the movement. These proposals aim to eliminate government wastage and 'budgeted corruption' to create room for tax relief. Some of the proposals include the removal of the Housing Levy and VAT on fuel and electricity. The team is also working on a plan to achieve a balanced budget within 15 months.

The ultimate objective of the Equitable Party is to make government more responsive to citizens' needs. Sifuna emphasized that this includes addressing the cost of food, employment, public services, and the cost of doing business. He called on Kenyans who share the movement's vision to join the party and help build it ahead of the 2027 elections.
