Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD (MMFL), has been recognised as CEO of the Year–Fintech at the Ghana CEO Vision & Awards 2026. This is his second consecutive win, solidifying his position as a leader in Ghana's fintech industry. The award acknowledges his efforts in advancing financial inclusion and driving growth in the sector. Haruna's leadership has been instrumental in shaping the country's mobile money and fintech landscape.

Under Haruna's leadership, MMFL has achieved significant milestones, including the structural separation of Scancom PLC's mobile money business, which took effect on March 31, 2026. This transition transformed MMFL into a dedicated fintech business. The statutory merger of MobileMoney Ltd. into MMFL aimed to support focused growth in fintech while meeting localisation requirements under the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987). These developments have contributed to the company's growth and expansion.

MMFL's business performance has shown remarkable growth, with MoMo revenue increasing by 35.7 per cent in 2025. The company has also reached 19.3 million active users. Revenue growth continued into the first half of 2026, driven by basic services, digital payments, and lending. This growth is a testament to Haruna's effective leadership and strategic vision for the company.

Beyond commercial performance, Haruna has championed stronger collaboration within the fintech ecosystem. He has advocated for consumer protection, digital lending, interoperability, and the development of shared financial infrastructure. At the 3i Africa Summit, Haruna emphasised the need for stronger consumer protection in digital lending and improved interoperability. He also called for banks and fintech companies to build emerging digital asset and tokenization services on Ghana's existing mobile money infrastructure.

Haruna's commitment to developing the wider industry extends to media engagement and nurturing the next generation of fintech innovators. Through the Fintech Media Development Series, he has engaged journalists on fintech strategy, financial inclusion, cyber security, and consumer protection. The MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide initiative organised by MMFL in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other fintech ecosystem players, supports students, developers, entrepreneurs, startups, and innovators in transforming ideas into practical financial solutions.

Commenting on the recognition, Haruna expressed appreciation to the organisers, his team, and industry partners. He described the award as a collective achievement, sharing the recognition with the MMFL team and partners across the fintech ecosystem. Haruna emphasised the company's commitment to building trusted financial services, strengthening collaboration, and nurturing talent that will shape the future of fintech in Ghana.

The latest recognition further highlights Haruna's role in shaping the growth of Ghana's digital financial services industry. The award was received on his behalf by a team from Mobile Money Fintech LTD at the ceremony. This achievement solidifies Haruna's position as a leader in the fintech sector and demonstrates his dedication to advancing financial inclusion and driving growth in Ghana's digital financial services industry.
