A member of the Beni Khaled local council, Samir Al-Hashshashi, has urged authorities to expedite stalled sports projects in the region. He noted that some projects have been halted despite having necessary funds allocated for years. Al-Hashshashi expressed his concerns that repeated meetings held at the Nabul governorate and delegations level have not yielded tangible results. He called for identifying the actual causes of the delays and taking necessary actions to overcome the challenges.
Al-Hashshashi highlighted several stalled projects, including the construction of a handball stadium in Zawia Al-Jadida. The project was included in the 2021 budget and allocated around 300,000 dinars in 2022. However, the work has not started yet, resulting in an increased project cost of approximately 380,000 dinars. The delay has had financial and sports repercussions, including the impact on the local sports association's activities.
The Beni Khaled municipal football stadium is another project that has faced delays, with construction lagging about a year behind schedule. The delay was caused by the non-delivery of artificial turf and slow progress of work. Al-Hashshashi also mentioned the mini-football stadium in Bir Drassen, where work has been halted for nearly a year due to issues related to contractor payments and customs procedures for the artificial turf.
The delays in these projects have denied young people in the region access to nearby sports facilities. Additionally, sports associations have been burdened with extra costs as they are forced to rent private fields for training. Al-Hashshashi criticized what he described as weak coordination among stakeholders involved in project implementation.
Al-Hashshashi emphasized that members of local councils continue to monitor these files as part of their oversight role and defense of citizens' demands. He stressed the need to address the causes of delays and take practical actions to accelerate project completion. This would ensure the optimal use of allocated funds and provide necessary sports facilities for young people in Beni Khaled.
The stalled projects have also led to increased financial burdens on sports associations. Al-Hashshashi argued that it is essential to resolve the issues hindering project implementation to avoid further delays. He called for a concerted effort to expedite the completion of these projects.
The local council member concluded by emphasizing the importance of providing sports infrastructure for the region's youth. He urged authorities to take necessary measures to overcome the challenges facing these projects and ensure their timely completion.
