The 8th Semaine des Activités Minières de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (SAMAO) and the 1st Semaine de l’Énergie, des Mines et des Hydrocarbures de l’AES (SEMH-AES) recently took place in Burkina Faso. As part of the event, a ceremony was held to honor various entities for their contributions to the mining, energy, and hydrocarbon sectors. The ceremony, which was attended by several high-ranking officials, recognized the achievements of companies, researchers, and partners who have made significant contributions to the sectors.
IAMGOLD Essakane SA emerged as one of the top winners, taking the first place in the Mine, Énergie, Carrière et Hydrocarbures category. The company also won the Excellence environnementale et énergétique award and the Excellence du leadership féminin dans les mines, l’énergie et les hydrocarbures award. Other notable winners included Corica Services, which took the first place in the supplier category, and Eratruck Burkina Faso, which secured the second place.
The ceremony also recognized the contributions of researchers, with Ichame Wendyam Kaboré winning the first prize for her research presentation. Adama Diallo and Boniface Kouraogo took the second and third places, respectively. The winners received trophies, certificates, and financial rewards for their achievements.
In addition to the awards, the ceremony also acknowledged the contributions of 18 partners and 17 organizations that supported the event. These partners were categorized into bronze, silver, gold, and diamond, and received certificates and trophies for their involvement.
The event was presided over by the Minister of Energy, Mines, and Careers, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, who represented the Prime Minister. The Minister of Energy and Water of Mali, Tiémoko Traoré, and the Special Advisor to the President of Niger on Mines and Energy were also in attendance.
The 8th SAMAO and the 1st SEMH-AES were held under the theme "Gouvernance des ressources extractives: enjeux géopolitiques, défis et opportunités pour les États africains". The event aimed to promote synergy and cooperation among stakeholders in the mining, energy, and hydrocarbon sectors.
The Minister of Energy, Mines, and Careers, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, highlighted the significance of the joint event, stating that it marked a major milestone in the development of the sectors. He emphasized the importance of building a sovereign, responsible, and prosperous sector for the benefit of local populations.
