The head of the "Sponsorship and Protection of Children from the Most Vulnerable Communities" project in Dakar, Madeleine Thérèse Diouf, of the French NGO Secours Islamique France (SIF), has emphasized the need for better collaboration among the departmental child protection committees (CDPE) in Dakar. This would enable them to intervene more effectively and address problems at the grassroots level. Diouf made these remarks on the sidelines of a meeting to present the results of activities carried out in 2025 and share the 2026 action plans of the CDPE in the Dakar region.
The workshop, organized by SIF in partnership with other organizations, brought together the CDPE from the Dakar region to discuss their achievements and plan for the future. Diouf highlighted the importance of collaboration among the committees, stating that it would allow them to provide more effective solutions to problems faced by children in the region. The meeting provided a platform for the committees to share their experiences, challenges, and best practices in protecting children.
According to Diouf, SIF has been supporting 971 orphaned children in the Dakar region, providing them with a monthly stipend of 17,680 CFA francs and an annual savings of 1,200 CFA francs. The organization also provides additional services, including enrollment in the Universal Health Coverage (CSU) and private insurance, as well as support for school reinforcement. These initiatives aim to improve the well-being and prospects of vulnerable children in the region.
In addition to financial support, SIF also assists vulnerable children with enrollment and re-enrollment in vocational training programs. The organization provides insertion kits to children who complete their vocational training, enabling them to start their careers. Diouf emphasized that SIF's goal is to provide comprehensive support to children, addressing their various needs and promoting their development.
In 2025, SIF provided financial support to the CDPE to implement their action plans. During the workshop, the committees presented their activity reports, highlighting their achievements and challenges. The meeting provided an opportunity for the committees to reflect on their work and plan for future activities, with a focus on improving collaboration and effectiveness.
The Dakar region is home to a significant number of vulnerable children, and the CDPE play a crucial role in protecting them. The committees work to identify and respond to child protection cases, providing support to children and their families. By enhancing collaboration and coordination, the CDPE can improve their response to child protection cases and provide more effective support to vulnerable children.
The workshop concluded with a call to action for the CDPE to strengthen their collaboration and coordination. By working together, the committees can leverage their resources and expertise to provide better support to vulnerable children in the Dakar region. SIF and its partners will continue to support the CDPE in their efforts to protect and promote the well-being of children.
