Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has called on voters in Southern Kaduna to re-elect President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in 2027. He attributed this appeal to the various projects and policies implemented by their administrations in the region. In an interview with Invicta FM, Kaduna, Katung assessed the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administrations at the federal and state levels.

According to Katung, President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani have demonstrated a commitment to the development of Southern Kaduna through several interventions. These initiatives, he believes, have the potential to improve livelihoods, create jobs, and promote inclusion in the region. The senator highlighted Tinubu’s decision to flag off the APC’s North-West campaign in Kaduna, which he said reflected the strategic importance of the state to the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Katung recalled a meeting with Tinubu in 2007, where he led a delegation to discuss issues concerning Kaduna. He described Tinubu as a caring president who considers Kaduna like home. The senator identified key federal interventions, including the proposed light rail project and a $29.62m ginger processing hub in Kachia, as initiatives expected to stimulate economic activities and create employment opportunities in the state.

The ginger processing facility in Kachia has already begun to influence economic activities, with land prices rising as investors anticipate increased commercial activities. Katung stated that the lifestyle of people in Kachia has changed, and similar changes are expected in Kafanchan and Manchok with the commencement of the light rail project. He believes that this project will create jobs, and food vendors will benefit from increased economic activities.

Katung praised Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive leadership style, which he said has restored Southern Kaduna’s sense of belonging in the affairs of the state. The senator described Governor Sani as a leader for all, who has brought projects to the zone and runs an open-door government. According to Katung, this is the first time in a long time that Southern Kaduna has felt truly part of Kaduna State.

The senator also defended the APC’s grassroots mobilisation strategy ahead of the 2027 elections, arguing that direct engagement with voters is more effective than relying solely on campaign rallies. He expressed confidence in the APC’s ability to win the elections through its engagement with voters at the grassroots level.

Key projects mentioned by Katung include the proposed light rail project and the $29.62m ginger processing hub in Kachia.
