The Senate Press Corps (SPC) of Nigeria has recognized Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, as the most outstanding Deputy President of the Senate since the country's Fourth Republic began in 1999. This honor was bestowed upon him at a ceremony held at the National Assembly in Abuja. The event was attended by the leadership and members of the SPC, a group of journalists and media representatives who cover the Senate.

According to Comrade Taye Odewale, the Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, the decision to award Senator Barau this recognition was based on a thorough assessment of his contributions to the Senate. The assessment considered factors such as his legislative achievements, quality of lawmaking, ability to preside over sessions, contributions to debates, oversight activities, representation of his constituents, accessibility, and commitment to humanitarian causes.

Senator Barau's legislative record was particularly highlighted during the ceremony. Despite the demands of his office, he has sponsored 48 bills within the last 40 months of the 10th National Assembly, with five of these bills having been passed into law. Some of the notable legislation he has sponsored include the North West Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2023, and the National Identity Management Commission (Repeal and Enactment) Bill, 2024.

The Senate Press Corps also acknowledged Senator Barau's commitment to serving his constituents and the wider community. He has implemented various constituency projects and empowerment programs that have benefited people across Kano North, Kano State, the North-West geopolitical zone, and Nigeria as a whole. This commitment to responsive representation and impactful public service delivery was a key factor in the SPC's decision to honor him.

Senator Barau has also held the position of First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, further highlighting his influence and contributions to regional legislative matters. His recognition as the most outstanding Deputy President of the Senate since 1999 underscores his significant impact on both national and regional legislative processes.

In response to the honor, Senator Barau expressed his gratitude to the Senate Press Corps for acknowledging his efforts. He stated that this recognition serves as both an acknowledgment of his work and a motivation to continue making significant contributions to the development of the legislature and the country.

Senator Barau concluded by reaffirming his commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, advancing people-oriented legislation, and delivering purposeful representation to his constituents. He assured the SPC and the wider public that he would continue to work diligently to meet the expectations placed upon him.
