Saudi Film Nights is set to make its South African debut from 8 to 14 October 2026, presenting a programme of contemporary Saudi films in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town. The tour commences in Johannesburg at the Lesedi Theatre at Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein. The first two films, Night Courier and Irtizaz, will screen on 8 and 9 October, respectively. Night Courier follows the story of Fahad, a struggling delivery driver in Riyadh, while Irtizaz centres on a young divorcee attending a funeral. These films showcase the range of Saudi cinema.
The programme then moves to Durban, where Siwar and First Funeral Day will screen at The Playhouse Company’s Drama Theatre on 11 October. Siwar tells the story of two families whose lives change after DNA tests reveal that their children were accidentally switched at birth. First Funeral Day explores the story of an estranged father who returns home after his child's death.
The tour concludes in Cape Town at the Labia Theatre on 14 October, with screenings of Siwar and First Funeral Day. These films offer unique perspectives on Saudi culture and society. The themes explored in the films range from dark humour and family drama to social issues and personal relationships.
