Saudi Arabia's King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) has launched a programme to support orphans in Djibouti. The initiative, which was announced on September 18, 2026, aims to provide monthly financial assistance and basic care to vulnerable children in the Horn of Africa nation. KSrelief signed an agreement with the Refaq Association in Hail to implement the programme.
Under the terms of the agreement, each orphan enrolled in the programme will receive KSh 10,000 (USD 80) every month. The payments are designed to reduce the financial pressure on host families and caregivers. In addition to cash transfers, beneficiaries will also receive clothing and vouchers redeemable through a contracted commercial partner.
The programme is expected to benefit 400 individuals directly, with a further 1,600 people expected to benefit indirectly from the initiative. This move is part of KSrelief's broader humanitarian operations spanning multiple countries since 2015. The agency has been actively providing aid to various countries, including Yemen, Somalia, and Gaza.
KSrelief's humanitarian efforts extend beyond East Africa. In Europe, the agency signed a separate agreement with the Islamic Community of Kosovo to assist 700 orphans across 29 governorates. The programme includes monthly financial assistance, school supplies, winter clothing, recreational activities, and support for families' food, housing, healthcare, and education needs.
In Gaza, KSrelief partnered with the Saudi Centre for Culture and Heritage to assist orphaned children and families who have lost their breadwinners. Beneficiaries in Gaza will receive KSh 12,900 (USD 100) per month, alongside clothing, school bags, stationery, and toys. An estimated 4,500 family members and carers are expected to benefit indirectly from the initiative.
Since its establishment in 2015, KSrelief has delivered 4,463 projects valued at nearly KSh 1.11 trillion (USD 8.6 billion) across 113 countries. The agency has worked alongside 357 local, regional, and international partners to provide humanitarian aid. Yemen remains the largest recipient of its aid globally, with approximately KSh 621 billion (USD 4.8 billion) in assistance.
KSrelief supervisor general Abdullah Al-Rabeeah recently held a video call with UK Minister of State for Development and Africa Kirsty McNeill. Both sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in humanitarian affairs. McNeill praised Saudi Arabia's relief efforts and acknowledged the agency's contribution to easing the suffering of people affected by crises and disasters.
