The Saudi Ambassador to Mauritania, Dr. Abdelaziz ben Abdullah Al-Raqabi, recently attended a reception in Nouakchott to celebrate the 96th anniversary of Saudi Arabia's national day. During the event, he highlighted the remarkable growth in relations between Mauritania and Saudi Arabia, particularly in the economic and investment sectors. The ambassador emphasized the significance of this development, showcasing the strengthened ties between the two nations.
The ambassador mentioned a recent visit by a Saudi delegation, comprising around 100 businessmen and investors, led by the Minister of Investment. This visit resulted in the establishment of a joint business council between the two countries. Furthermore, several significant investment agreements were signed in areas such as energy, agriculture, livestock, and infrastructure, demonstrating the depth of their strategic partnership.
One notable project is the development of the Ndiago power plant, which aims to produce electricity from gas with a capacity of 230 megawatts. This project, along with others, reflects the substantial investments made by Saudi Arabia in Mauritania, estimated to be around $669 million. Additionally, a large-scale agricultural project is being implemented by the Saudi company "Al-Rif" on approximately 53,000 hectares of land.
The Saudi Fund for Development has played a crucial role in supporting Mauritania's development efforts, financing over 31 projects in the country since 1979. One such project is the King Salman University Hospital. The King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Actions has also contributed to numerous humanitarian and medical projects, programs, and campaigns across various regions of Mauritania, including remote areas and villages.
The Mauritanian government was represented at the ceremony by several high-ranking officials, including the Minister of Justice, Mohamed Ould Soueïdatt, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Original Teaching, Al-Vadl Ould Sidati Ould Ahmed Louli. Lamina Mint Al-Qotob Ould Moma, a counselor to the President of the Republic, was also in attendance.
Dr. Al-Raqabi emphasized that the relations between Mauritania and Saudi Arabia are built on a foundation of sincere cooperation and mutual respect. He expressed his optimism about the future of these relations, highlighting the significant progress made in recent years.
