The Member of Parliament for Salaga North, Alhassan Mumuni, has called for urgent government intervention to establish a Senior High School in the area. He stated that the absence of a second-cycle institution is limiting educational opportunities for young people. Many students who complete junior high school are unable to continue their education close to their communities.

Mr. Mumuni recalled that an E-block project was started in the area under the Mahama administration but was later abandoned. This stalled project has reinforced the need to pursue an alternative approach rather than wait indefinitely for new infrastructure before providing second-cycle education. He expressed his willingness to support a community-led initiative to establish a senior high school.

Chiefs, traditional authorities, and other community stakeholders are considering establishing a community senior high school. Mr. Mumuni disclosed that the school could initially operate from available facilities and enroll students who have been unable to secure admission to existing senior high schools. This initiative aims to address the difficulties faced by students seeking places in schools outside their communities.

According to the MP, some existing infrastructure in the district could be used to get the initiative started, rather than waiting for the construction of a new school. He appealed to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to support the community's initiative and provide the necessary approval to enable the school to begin operations.

Discussions on the establishment of a senior high school have already reached the Ministry of Education and the highest levels of government. However, Mr. Mumuni stressed that the situation requires urgent action. He remains ready to work with traditional authorities and other stakeholders to secure the necessary support for the initiative.

Establishing a senior high school in the district would give young people greater access to second-cycle education. The MP emphasized that this would help address the challenges faced by students who have to travel long distances to attend school. This, in turn, would enhance educational opportunities and improve outcomes for students in the area.

Mr. Mumuni's call for a senior high school in Salaga North is part of a broader effort to improve education in the district. He has previously advocated for the implementation of the NADMO fund and other initiatives aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for local youth. The MP's efforts have garnered attention from various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and the GES.
