Sage Grey Finance Limited, a Nigerian financial services group, has set an ambitious goal to attain tier-one bank status within the next 10 years. As part of its growth strategy, the company plans to strengthen its financial services business, deepen its capabilities, and expand its banking operations. This move is expected to solidify the company's position in the Nigerian financial sector.

According to Sage Grey Finance's 10th anniversary presentation, the company aims to become a commercial bank by 2027. Subsequently, it plans to build its institution into a tier-one Nigerian bank with wholesale, retail, and commercial banking capabilities. This development is expected to enhance the company's service offerings and increase its market share.

Temitope Runsewe, managing director and chief executive officer of Sage Grey Finance, stated that the group had spent its first decade building the necessary infrastructure, including people, institutions, processes, and governance, to support its next phase of growth. The company started operations in 2016 as a three-person advisory business focused on helping businesses and institutions identify opportunities, structure transactions, and mobilise capital.

Over the years, Sage Grey Finance has expanded into financial services, technology, and investment. The company currently has about 1,000 staff, more than 38 companies, and total assets of over $40 million across Nigeria. This significant growth has positioned the company for further expansion and development.

As part of its growth strategy, Sage Grey Finance plans to become listed on the Nigerian Exchange. The company's decision to expand beyond advisory services was driven by the need to develop capabilities that would allow it to support clients through execution rather than simply provide advice.

Sage Grey Finance is currently a CBN-regulated financial institution focused on impact finance and institutional partnerships. The company recorded N2.43 billion in revenue and N920.7 million in profit over the past three years. This financial performance demonstrates the company's stability and potential for future growth.

According to Runsewe, the next decade will focus on consolidating, optimising, and scaling the businesses built over the past 10 years. With a strong foundation in place, Sage Grey Finance is poised to achieve its goal of becoming a tier-one Nigerian bank within the next decade.
