The Convener of Safe and Secured Nigeria, Musa Mohammed, has denounced the glorification, financing, and harbouring of violent groups. He made these remarks at a Peace and Development Rally in Orozo, Federal Capital Territory, on Wednesday. This rally was part of a broader peace campaign by the group, which also organised similar events in Lagos, Shagamu, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Keffi, Agbor, and several locations in the FCT.
Mohammed emphasised that peace cannot be achieved while violence is celebrated or supported. He urged Nigerians to reject the glorification and financing of criminal activities. Instead, residents should report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies, rather than confronting armed groups themselves. According to Mohammed, security begins with the community, and citizens are often the first to notice suspicious activities.
The group’s convener also cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands. He encouraged cooperation with the military, police, civil defence, and other security agencies. Mohammed commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their dedication, courage, and sacrifices in protecting the nation and confronting security threats.
Mohammed appreciated the sacrifices of the Armed Forces, who continue to serve under difficult circumstances. He called for greater protection of youths from recruitment into criminal and violent groups. According to him, young people are an important part of the solution, and they must be protected from criminal recruitment and provided opportunities to contribute positively to society.
The group’s convener urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, and youth leaders to identify tensions early and promote dialogue. He emphasised that peacebuilding must start before a crisis becomes a crisis and that community leaders have a major role in preventing violence.
