Nayituriki Célestin, a resident of Gashenyi sector, Rukomo cell, Nyagatare district, has built a Rwf 30 million home through his rice cultivation business. Previously, he was a poor farmer who relied on hiring out his labor to others.
Nayituriki and his wife moved to Rukomo cell and found an opportunity to cultivate rice, which they did with enthusiasm. Their investment in rice farming has paid off, enabling them to build a decent home. He revealed that before 2020, he and his wife were struggling with poverty, working as laborers to make ends meet.
The turning point came when Nayituriki was advised to take up rice farming, which he started on a small scale. As the business grew, he expanded his farm, bought more land, and increased his production. The profits from his rice farm have enabled him to build a modern home with an estimated value of Rwf 50 million, including a water tank and a modern bathroom.
Nayituriki's success story is an inspiration to his community, as he never imagined that he would achieve such a level of success. He attributed his achievement to hard work and support from the government through extension services. The government had provided him with advice on modern farming techniques, which he implemented to increase his yields.
Currently, Nayituriki owns a one-hectare rice farm and has also received support from the Rwanda Agricultural Board (RAB), which provided him with three hectares of land for demonstration purposes. He uses his farm to showcase best practices in rice farming and provides training to other farmers.
The Nyagatare district authorities have expressed their satisfaction with Nayituriki's success, citing him as an example of a farmer who has taken advantage of government initiatives to improve his livelihood. The authorities have encouraged other farmers to emulate Nayituriki's example and work hard to improve their lives.
Nayituriki's success has also had a positive impact on his family, which comprises five members, including his wife and three children. He has also acquired a motorcycle and owns five hectares of land, which he uses for farming.
