Rwandan electric vehicle company Spiro is set to build more charging stations in the country. This decision comes after feedback from motorists who use electric motorcycles. They complained about the long wait times at charging stations. Spiro aims to increase its investment in large battery storage facilities. This will enable motorists to charge their batteries quickly and efficiently.

According to Flora Limukii, Spiro's head of communication for Africa, the company took motorists' concerns seriously. They realized that many people are switching from petrol-powered motorcycles to electric ones. As a result, Spiro wants to provide fast and convenient services. The company plans to build large charging stations that can accommodate many batteries. This will reduce wait times for motorists, especially in high-traffic areas like Kigali.

Spiro currently has nine large charging stations in Rwanda. Each station can charge and store between 300 and 1,300 batteries. The new stations will have an even greater capacity. This expansion is part of Spiro's efforts to increase its presence in Rwanda. The company has over 300 charging stations in the country and plans to build more.

The expansion will not be limited to Kigali. Spiro plans to build large charging stations in other districts and regions of Rwanda. These include Rubavu, Nyagatare, and Musanze. This move is part of Rwanda's efforts to promote the use of electric vehicles. The government has implemented policies to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, including tax incentives and special tariffs for electric vehicle charging.

Limukii emphasized that Rwanda is a key market for Spiro in Africa. The country's efforts to promote electric vehicles have created a favorable environment for the company. Spiro has over 40,000 electric motorcycles in Rwanda and over 146,000 in Africa. The company plans to continue to grow its presence in the region.

One of the concerns of electric motorcycle users is the fear of running out of battery power during trips. Spiro is addressing this concern by expanding its charging network and introducing a new app called Spiro Connect. The app allows motorists to find nearby charging stations and check if they have available batteries.

Spiro is also exploring ways to use renewable energy sources, such as solar power, to charge its batteries. This will ensure that motorists have access to charging services even during power outages. The company's goal is to make electric vehicles a convenient and reliable mode of transportation in Rwanda and beyond.
