The Rwanda Football Federation has announced a new initiative to allow former footballers, coaches, and referees to attend BK Pro League matches. According to a letter sent to all teams participating in the league, each team is required to set aside a designated area for these individuals. This move aims to enable them to continue following and contributing to the development of football in Rwanda.
The initiative covers former members of the Rwanda national team, 'Amavubi', as well as coaches and technical leaders of BK Pro League teams, referees, and commissioners who are currently not employed. Teams have been asked to designate a specific area for these individuals, which will be conveniently located and well-covered, either in the VIP section or elsewhere in the stadium.
The number of designated seats will vary depending on the stadium's capacity. For stadiums with a capacity of less than 5,000, 25 seats will be allocated, while stadiums with a capacity of over 5,000 will have 50 seats set aside. These seats will not be sold or made available through the ticketing system.
To ensure the smooth implementation of this initiative, the Players' Association and the Coaches' Association in Rwanda will work together to create a list of eligible individuals, which will be shared with the host team on matchday. This list will be used to verify the identity of those attending the matches.
The designated areas will be conveniently located and well-covered, providing a comfortable viewing experience for the former footballers, coaches, and referees. This initiative is expected to encourage these individuals to continue supporting and contributing to the development of football in Rwanda.
The new initiative will come into effect starting from the fifth matchday of the 2026/2027 BK Pro League, which will take place from Friday to Sunday. This move is seen as a positive step towards engaging former footballers and promoting the growth of the sport in Rwanda.
By providing a special seating arrangement for former footballers, coaches, and referees, the Rwanda Football Federation aims to foster a sense of community and inclusiveness within the football ecosystem. This initiative is also expected to inspire a new generation of footballers and promote the values of the sport.
