The Ruhinda Sub-County council recently held its first Council meeting at the Sub-County headquarters in Rwenshaka Trading Center, marking the official start of service delivery to residents in their respective parishes. The meeting was an induction for the newly elected councilors, where they were guided on their roles and responsibilities. The Clerk to Council for Rukungiri District Local Government, Ms. Asiimwe Tracy, represented the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and emphasized the importance of cooperation, discipline, and mutual respect among council members.
During the induction, Ms. Asiimwe Tracy urged councilors to strictly abide by council rules and Uganda's regulations. She stressed that effective service delivery is achieved through cooperation, discipline, and mutual respect among council members. Asiimwe also advised councilors to avoid late coming for council sessions, maintain decent and proper dress codes, and uphold the procedures that guide the council's operations. This, she noted, would ensure that the council remains peaceful and orderly, enabling them to deliver services effectively to the people.
Ruhinda Sub-County Senior Assistant Secretary, Kukundakwe Hellen, commended the Clerk to Council for providing guidance to the councilors. She expressed confidence that the techniques and instructions from the CAO's office and district leadership would help the council sustain and improve on their previous performance. According to district assessment results, Ruhinda Sub-County ranked fifth in service delivery during the previous financial year.
Chairperson LC 3 Ruhinda Sub-County, Hellen Kabajuungu, congratulated councilors for holding their first Council meeting. She reiterated that the main role of elected leaders is to represent people and ensure services reach their communities. Kabajuungu emphasized that councilors should prioritize the needs of their constituents and work towards improving service delivery.
The Ruhinda Sub-County Speaker, Paul Kabahango, also urged unity and full compliance with council rules. He emphasized that disciplined leadership would translate into better development. Kabahango stressed that councilors should work together to achieve their goals and ensure that the council operates efficiently.
During the meeting, councilors discussed follow-up monitoring on the ongoing maruming of the Rukungiri–Go Down Road. They called for serious police patrols and stricter supervision of Burombe Police Station, alongside monitoring before any payments to contractors. This discussion highlights the council's commitment to overseeing development projects and ensuring that they are completed to the required standards.
