The Julius Nyerere B1-M1 Link Road, a new Rs 332 million road development, was officially opened on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, in Ébène by Minister of National Infrastructure Ajay Gunness. This project aims to alleviate peak-hour traffic congestion in the area. The link road provides a direct route onto the M1 motorway for drivers travelling from Ébène and the Tribeca Shopping Centre towards Port-Louis or the North.

The new link road allows drivers to bypass the heavily congested Réduit area, which was previously a necessary passage to reach the M1 motorway. The project features a newly constructed roundabout and slip road situated near Maeva Tower on Bank Street, establishing a direct access route to the northbound motorway network. This development is expected to improve traffic flow in the region.

Minister Ajay Gunness emphasized the need for concrete measures to ease traffic gridlock during the opening ceremony. He mentioned that he had asked the Road Development Authority (RDA) to draw up a plan to improve traffic flow in the region. The project began in April 2025 and has resulted in the completion of the Julius Nyerere B1-M1 Link Road.

The infrastructure scheme was led by Transinvest Construction Ltd in collaboration with GIBB Engineering, under the supervision of the RDA. The inauguration ceremony was attended by key government representatives, including Chief Whip Stéphanie Anquetil, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Veda Baloomoody, Junior Minister for Finance Dhaneshwar Damry, and Deputy Chief Whip Govinden Venkatasami.

This interchange is part of a wider series of transport infrastructure investments made alongside private sector contributions from Tribeca. Previous works in the area include the bridge connecting Ébène Cybercity to the Technopole, funded jointly by Hermes Properties and Landscope Mauritius. Various road network enhancements have also been undertaken across the site managed by Landscope Mauritius.

The Julius Nyerere B1-M1 Link Road will provide an alternative exit from Ébène Cybercity towards the M1 motorway in the direction of Port-Louis. The project contributes to a better distribution of road traffic, reducing congestion in the Réduit area. The link road is expected to have a positive impact on daily commutes and overall traffic management in the region.

The successful completion of the Julius Nyerere B1-M1 Link Road demonstrates the collaborative efforts of the government and private sector in addressing infrastructure challenges. The project showcases a strategic partnership aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing the overall transportation network in Mauritius.
