The Rotary Club of Eko Signature, officially chartered on July 28, 2026, has unveiled community projects aimed at improving the lives of residents in Lagos. The club, with 20 charter members, was created to bring together young professionals interested in community service and sustainable interventions for underserved and vulnerable communities. The club's projects were launched during the formal installation of its first president, Rotarian Davina Ogbue, as Charter President.
The club's vision began in March 2026, with the aim of creating a professional platform where youthful innovation, fellowship, and community service could come together. According to Ogbue, Rotary's work extends beyond helping individuals, as interventions can benefit entire communities. The club's first project is the Rehabilitation of Sewage and Toilet Facilities at Victoria Island Secondary School, sponsored by Dharmattan Nigeria Limited, with generous donations from Mr. and Mrs. Molokwu.
The club's projects were selected within Rotary's framework, including basic education and literacy, maternal and child health, disease prevention, water, hygiene, and sanitation. The second project targets maternal and child health at Igwefo Health Centre, where the club plans to provide medical essentials, such as blood pressure monitoring machines, glucose monitoring machines, and weighing scales. The club also aims to improve seating arrangements for antenatal and postnatal sessions.
The third intervention focuses on waste management and drainage, involving the cleaning and desilting of an obstructed drainage system, removal of non-biodegradable waste, and improvement of water flow. The club also plans to provide about 100 mosquito nets and over 50 large waste containers. The fourth project is an economic empowerment program targeting individuals who will receive sewing machines and three months of training.
The economic empowerment program aims to empower seven individuals initially, with the goal of enabling them to make money for themselves and their families. According to Rotarian Adebayo-Abass, the project director, the club's approach is to provide not only equipment but also training to ensure sustainability. Ogbue emphasized that the club is committed to following through on its projects to ensure they are sustainable over time.
Past District Governor, Rotary International District 9112, Rotarian Kola Sodipo, linked the creation of more Rotary clubs with an expanded capacity to reach people in need. He expects the new club to reach out to more people to join Rotary and do more good in the world. District Governor, Rotary District 9112, Rotarian Layi Abidoye, congratulated the charter members and urged them to remain committed to service and uphold the values of the organization.

Ogbue described the club's longer-term objective as delivering projects that remain meaningful and sustainable beyond the tenure of its founding members. The club began with 20 members and plans to add about three to five more members by the end of the Rotary year, with corporate partnerships central to its funding strategy.
