Rite Foods Limited, a leading company in Nigeria, has announced its ambitious goal to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2030. This move is part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability and strengthen its commitment to the circular economy. The company's Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Ekuma Eze, made this disclosure during a partnership with the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) to mark World Cleanup Day.

As part of the initiative, Rite Foods distributed 600 coveralls to street sweepers in Ogun State. The company's support for the World Cleanup Day initiative aims to recognize the efforts of street sweepers who work daily to keep cities and communities clean. Eze stated that Rite Foods is committed to ensuring that waste generated from its operations is reused, repurposed, or recycled rather than disposed of in landfills.

The company's commitment to circularity is evident in its production of coveralls, which are made from 30% waste materials. This demonstrates how materials that could otherwise end up in drains, on land, or in landfills can be converted into useful products. Eze emphasized that the initiative shows Rite Foods' story of circularity, where nothing should be wasted.

The partnership with OGWAMA is not a one-off initiative, as Rite Foods plans to continue its relationship with the authority for as long as it remains in operation. Eze stressed that the company's environmental sustainability drive aims to position it among businesses in Nigeria recognized for responsible environmental practices.

The Special Adviser on Environment to Governor Dapo Abiodun and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Farouk Akintunde Adeniyi, called for collective efforts by residents, corporate organizations, and other stakeholders to sustain a clean and healthy environment across the state. Adeniyi commended Rite Foods for collaborating with the authority on the environmental clean-up exercise.

Adeniyi also highlighted OGWAMA's Loopbox initiative, through which recyclable waste is collected from communities while residents are compensated. He urged other organizations to support the government's environmental efforts, noting that a cleaner environment requires the participation of all stakeholders.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Dr Kafayat Lawal, applauded Rite Foods for the initiative and urged other companies to emulate the gesture. She emphasized that greater support for environmental workers would help them perform their duties more effectively.
