The Bank of Industry has launched MyBOI, a digital portal designed to streamline the loan application process for Nigerian businesses. Announced on October 2, the platform allows businesses to register, submit documents, and track their applications in one place. The BOI website directs customers to onlineportal.boi.ng to apply, track, and manage financing requests. This move aims to reduce the paperwork and branch visits involved in seeking credit.

The MyBOI portal brings together various stages of the loan application process, enabling businesses to save an application and return to it, check its status, and see required actions. This feature allows applicants to follow outstanding requirements without starting the process afresh each time. However, businesses still need to provide registration documents and financial records to be considered for financing. The required documents include Corporate Affairs Commission registration documents, a verifiable business bank account, identification, and Bank Verification Numbers for the relevant owners or directors.

To apply through the MyBOI portal, businesses need to gather several documents, including business bank statements covering six to 12 months. Depending on the business and financing request, applicants may also need a tax identification number, regulatory licences, and suppliers' invoices for equipment or other purchases. The amount available for financing depends on the business's cash flow, transaction history, credit profile, and capacity to repay. Startups may be considered on a case-by-case basis, including their viability and projected cash flows.

The Bank of Industry aims to reduce the time needed to initiate an application by at least 40% within nine months through the MyBOI portal. The bank also targets a 30% increase in qualified digital financing applications within a year. These are targets, not results already achieved. The 40% figure concerns starting an application, rather than the time required to approve a loan or release the money. The bank says its credit checks remain in place to ensure responsible lending.

The MyBOI portal does not guarantee approval or a single interest rate for every borrower. Interest rates and fees depend on the financing product, repayment period, and assessed risk. Collateral or guarantees may be required, and approved money may go directly to a supplier rather than into the applicant's account. Businesses can begin the application process through the official MyBOI portal but should examine the repayment schedule, charges, and security requirements before accepting any offer.

The introduction of the MyBOI portal is part of the Bank of Industry's efforts to enhance its services and support Nigerian businesses. The bank has previously launched initiatives to support entrepreneurs, including a N10bn fund for female entrepreneurs and partnerships with the Federal Government to disburse loans to MSMEs. The MyBOI portal is expected to improve the overall experience for businesses seeking financing from the Bank of Industry.

The Bank of Industry's move to digitalize its loan application process is a significant step towards improving the efficiency and accessibility of its services. By providing a user-friendly online platform, the bank aims to attract more businesses and support their growth. The success of the MyBOI portal will depend on its adoption and the bank's ability to effectively manage the increased volume of applications.
