The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has called on the government to ensure clarity, consistency, and legal certainty in implementing its ongoing reforms. While MAN supports measures aimed at improving tax administration and strengthening fiscal sustainability, the reforms must be implemented in a way that promotes investment and competitiveness. He also stressed the need for Nigeria to build a productive and competitive industrial economy capable of positioning the country strongly within Africa and the global marketplace.
The Nigeria Industrial Policy (NIP) 2025, launched by the Federal Government in February 2026, represents a roadmap for strengthening Nigeria's industrial base. However, ensuring that the new framework translates into measurable improvements in industrial performance remains a major challenge. The MAN boss noted that the association's 54th Annual General Meeting (AGM) would focus on leveraging NIP 2025 to position Nigeria as Africa's industrial hub.
The AGM, scheduled to hold from 4 to 6 October in Lagos, would provide an opportunity for manufacturers, government, policymakers, development partners, and other stakeholders to examine how NIP 2025 could move from aspiration to measurable industrial outcomes. The theme of the AGM, "Leveraging National Industrial Policy to Position Nigeria as Africa's Industrial Hub," reflects the association's commitment to promoting industrial development in Nigeria.
One of the highlights of the AGM would be the 6th Adeola Odutola Lecture, a major public policy conversation featuring Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, former Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), as the guest speaker. This lecture would provide a platform for experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities in implementing NIP 2025.
Otunba Meshioye emphasized the importance of addressing the fundamental question of building a productive and competitive industrial economy in Nigeria. He noted that this would require a coordinated effort from government, policymakers, and stakeholders to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
