This includes supervising the recoveries team, allocating portfolios and cases, setting priorities, and monitoring individual and team performance. The role also involves providing virtual and physical recovery support to field recoveries staff. This support includes guidance on difficult negotiations, field visits, collateral action, and escalation decisions.
A key aspect of the Recoveries and Compliance Lead role is repayment monitoring and early intervention. This involves reviewing client repayment patterns using daily reports generated by loan agents and other approved portfolio monitoring tools. The successful candidate will flag clients with skipped, late, or irregular repayments and ensure prompt follow-up before arrears worsen. They will also generate loan-agent deposit confirmation reports and investigate unreconciled, delayed, or unusual deposits.
The Recoveries and Compliance Lead will be responsible for arrears management and recovery action. This includes developing and overseeing account-specific recovery strategies, repayment arrangements, and escalation plans for delinquent accounts. The role also involves managing high-ticket, sensitive, complex, or materially impaired recovery cases. The successful candidate will review the progress and quality of client follow-ups, field visits, notices, and repayment commitments completed by the recoveries team.
In terms of credit process and client compliance, the Recoveries and Compliance Lead will verify compliance at client onboarding and loan origination stages. This includes ensuring customer identification, required approvals, affordability or capacity assessments, supporting documentation, and data completeness. The role also involves conducting routine compliance checks of physical client files and system client profiles, documenting exceptions, and ensuring timely corrective action.
The successful candidate will be responsible for generating and sharing daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly arrears reports within agreed timelines. They will also monitor and distribute portfolio-at-risk reports, highlighting movement, ageing, concentration, recovery rates, and material exceptions. The Recoveries and Compliance Lead will provide management with clear analysis of delinquency drivers, team productivity, high-ticket exposures, expected recoveries, escalated cases, and compliance gaps.
The ideal candidate for the Recoveries and Compliance Lead position will have a diploma or degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Law, Risk and Compliance, or a related field. They will have at least two years of relevant experience in credit, recoveries, microfinance, lending operations, risk, or compliance, including experience supervising staff or coordinating a team. Strong leadership, negotiation, judgement, analytical, reporting, and stakeholder-management skills are also required.
