Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, was attacked by armed men in Ekiti State on Friday. According to reports, Sowore was in the state for political consultations when he and his team were ambushed at a restaurant called Tawakal-Tu. The attackers, described as thugs of the All Progressive Congress (APC) by eyewitnesses, stormed the restaurant, injured Sowore, and attempted to abduct him.

The AAC has raised concerns over Sowore's safety, stating that his whereabouts were initially unknown after the attack. In a statement issued by Rex Elanu, the National Publicity Secretary of AAC, the party confirmed the attack and demanded that the Ekiti State governor, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police take immediate action to guarantee Sowore's safety, arrest the perpetrators, and ensure their prompt prosecution.

Sowore is one of President Bola Tinubu's fiercest critics and a leading voice of opposition against the political establishment. The AAC has vowed not to accept any attempt to intimidate, harass, or physically attack Sowore for daring to challenge the system. The party has threatened to mobilize a massive action at the Ekiti State Government House if the authorities fail to act with urgency and ensure Sowore's safety.

The AAC has held the Ekiti State Governor, the IGP, and the relevant security authorities responsible for Sowore's safety, warning that they will be held accountable if anything happens to him or if the perpetrators are not promptly arrested and prosecuted. The party has demanded immediate action, not excuses, to address the situation.

Sources close to Sowore have confirmed that although he was injured in the attack, he is safe and currently under police protection. The AAC has insisted that Sowore's safety is non-negotiable and that the party will not stand by while his security remains in question.

The attack on Sowore has raised concerns over the level of security protection afforded to political candidates in Nigeria. The incident has also sparked fears of escalating political tensions and violence in the country. The AAC has called for calm, assuring that it will not allow political thuggery to silence opposition in Nigeria.

The party has given an ultimatum to the authorities, stating that if they fail to act with urgency, the AAC will have no choice but to mobilize a massive action to demand answers, accountability, and justice. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians calling for calm and urging the authorities to take decisive action to ensure Sowore's safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.
